“Many people have set out to write accounts about the events that have been fulfilled among us. They used the eyewitness reports circulating among us from the early disciples. Having carefully investigated everything from the beginning, I also have decided to write a careful account for you, most honorable Theophilus, so you can be certain of the truth of everything you were taught.” —Luke 1:1-4 (NLT)
The opening verses of Luke remind us of the great care taken to preserve the truth of God’s Word. Luke’s thorough investigation and deliberate recounting show us that our faith is rooted in a rich, reliable history. As we seek to deepen our daily walk with the Lord, these verses inspire us to approach our relationship with God with intentionality and care. Here are five practical ways to enrich your daily journey with Him:
1. Start with Scripture
The foundation of a vibrant relationship with God is His Word. Begin your day by reading a portion of Scripture. Whether it’s a devotional, a chapter, a few verses, or a Bible reading plan, let the Word guide your thoughts and set the tone for the day. Colossians 3:16 encourages us to “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”. Meditate on passages that speak to your heart, and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal their deeper meaning. In Joshua 1:8, we see how meditation is a vital aspect of a believer’s walk with the Lord. It’s the channel through which the Lord breathes into your spirit and makes us live in victory daily through the Living Word. To truly draw virtues and grace from God through the Word, you will absolutely need and depend only on the Holy Spirit. He is the author of the Scripture and thus the best interpreter of His own message. The letter kills, but the Spirit gives life. 2 Cor 3:6
Practical Tip: Keep a journal nearby to jot down insights, prayers, or questions that arise during your reading. This would be your own Holy Jotter where you record your personal encounter and certainty of those things you believe.
2. Commit to Prayer and Listening
Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place, and there He prayed. Mark 1:35. The Lord left us an example when He walked here. He started the day with a personal prayer in a quiet place so nothing could distract Him.
And prayer is more than talking to God; it’s a two-way conversation. Spend intentional time sharing your heart with Him, but also create space to listen. Often, we are so focused on speaking that we miss the gentle whispers of His guidance and comfort.
Practical Tip: Set aside a quiet place for prayer, free from distractions, and practice a quiet time to tune your heart to God’s voice.
3. Practice Gratitude
I really wanted to include this in the prayer tip, but gratitude is much more than telling God, ‘Father, thank You for today.
Gratitude should be a mindset. An intentional act of counting your blessings and knowing that whatever you have received was given to you. And also that those things you find not so good could have been worse. Gratitude shifts our perspective and draws us closer to God. Each day, take a moment to thank Him for specific blessings, big or small. Gratitude not only reminds us of God’s faithfulness but also cultivates a joyful and content spirit.
Practical Tip: Keep a gratitude journal and write down at least three things you’re thankful for each day.
4. Serve Others with Love
You are the salt and the light of the world. Mathew 5:13-14. You are Christ’s representative, His Eternal Kingdom ambassador to this world. Serving others with love shows them what the kingdom of God and His Christ is. A walk with the Lord is never meant to be a solo journey. Jesus modeled a life of service, and as His followers, we are called to love and serve others. The world today may be filled with ingrates and opportunists, but that should not change our nature as believers. You are the light in a world of darkness Matthew 5:14. So look for opportunities to extend kindness, whether through volunteering, encouraging words, or acts of generosity.
Practical Tip: Pray for God to reveal ways you can bless someone each day.
5. Reflect on God’s Faithfulness
God is true to His word, unchanging in nature, and keeps His promise. “Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments.” Deuteronomy 7:9.
Our world today is filled with uncertainties, and many are suffering from panic attacks. It’s a blessing to know that God remains a constant, unwavering source of hope and strength.
A good way to draw daily strength to reflect on God’s dealings with man through the ages as recorded in the Scriptures. God fulfilled His promises to those who followed Him from the time of Abraham to the time of the prophets and the New Testament.
As Luke did in his gospel, take time to remember and reflect on God’s faithfulness in your life. Recall the answered prayers, past victories, and the moments His presence strengthens your trust and deepens our connection with Him.
Practical Tip: Create a “faith timeline” to document key moments when you’ve seen God’s hand at work.
Just as Luke carefully investigated and recorded the truth of Jesus’ life, we are invited to approach our walk with God with the same dedication and purpose. By incorporating these practices into your daily routine, you can nurture a richer, more intimate relationship with the Lord. Remember, your walk with God is a journey—take each step with faith and intention.
